Breaking the Cycle of Generational Trauma with Dr. Amber Anglin

Season #6

In this episode, I sit down with Amber Anglin, LPC Associate and founder of Posterity Counseling, for one of the most personal and eye-opening conversations I've had on this show. Amber specializes in trauma-informed therapy for children, teens, and families - and generational trauma is truly her passion.

We talk about how trauma gets passed down not just through stories, but biologically and relationally - through epigenetics, through pregnancy, through the nervous system patterns we model for our kids without even realizing it. Amber shares her own story growing up in a home where emotional stoicism was the norm, and how that shaped her as a therapist and a mom.

We also get into the intersection of generational and racial trauma, what cycle-breaking looks like in real time (including a Christmas story that hits hard), and why naming your child's emotions is a gift - not a curse.

One thing Amber said that I keep thinking about: "The same body that learned fear can also learn safety."

If you work with clients carrying inherited wounds, or if you're someone trying to do something different for the next generation, this one's for you.
